I'm constantly asked "What camera would you recommend to get the best results in product photography?"
Here is my answer.
Your Camera is one of three factors that need to be considered when capturing products. Believe it or not, your camera is the least important of the three!
You can see few pictures on my website that I took between 2001and 2003 with 3Megapixels Samsung camera - would you be able to tell which ones?
I can help you with this: In my portfolio click on the Glass Product Portfolio. You will see a Champagne glass, colour plate and two colour vases. I shot them all with a 3 Megapixels camera.
Of course you need sophisticated equipment to shoot some products like jewellery, coins, oil paintings, architecture, etc.
So what are the other two factors?
Lighting - which includes intricate systems of lamps, light modifiers and reflectors.
Post-production - in product photography, editing in programs like Photoshop and Lightroom are critical components in creating the perfect photograph.
As you can see, it is of the utmost importance that you hire a professional for this caliber of work. That's why photographers like myself have been in the business for so many years!
